If you have an iPad, and you have upgraded to the latest firmware to version 4.2.1 and 'not very likely that you can connect via the 3G signal. And if you have a USIM operator mobile TRE (H3G) be careful because the risk of connecting with roaming in TIM, Vodafone and WIND or so to pay without using your subscription.
I do not know why nobody talks about it on the Web in Italy but it 's a common problem as you can read this discussion forum on the official site of Apple .
Some users suggest various procedures, including the one to do a restore, but it is not 'a certain procedure. So you may lose all of your applications and data to continue to not get 3G signal. I'll try to find out how to solve.

I called Apple Care (the toll-free number 800-554-533) and a nice American boy I was simply told to perform a restore from backup but not by reconfiguring the IPAD as new. Now I have new signal 3ITA and especially 3G. The only drawback is that this procedure will lose the saved data for individual applications. IBooks in fact lose the books or documents in Pages or Numbers. Just do a manual sync again but at least you can surf as well as with 3G WiFi even when you are around.
